Students in the Independent Studies Program will work in an interdisciplinary environment on a project of their own design to build their experience and capacity for collaborative, productive, and creative processes, guided by a Taft faculty member and in coordination with a dedicated Taft Alumni mentor. Students will develop project goals with their Alumni mentor, refine and execute shared objectives, and learn how to authentically demonstrate their learning to the community in a final demonstration of learning. Students will learn how to build and propose a line of inquiry, research across disciplines, collaborate with global partners, create new knowledge, skills, or art, and scaffold their work to meet deadlines. This course is not limited by discipline; rather, students are encouraged to bring together multiple disciplines to achieve their goals. This one-semester course is open to Upper Mid students for the 2026-2027 school year.
