These online resources will be useful for your children in Kindergarten through Grade 8.

  • Biography in Context
    The ultimate resource for a biography report, this contains over 400,000 biographies from the ancient world to the present. Valuable for even the youngest researchers, although they may need a little assistance from Mom or Dad.
  • Book Collection Nonfiction: Elementary School Edition
    A rich research database for school and public libraries containing informative abstracts and searchable full text for 1,300 popular nonfiction books. The database includes high interest titles on animals, weather, holidays, Native Americans, United States, Canada, biographies, civics, and more.
  • Britannica Academic
    An all-in-one reference library, this includes the complete Encyclopedia Britannica plus related articles, videos, and websites, as well as a dictionary, thesaurus, and world atlas.
  • Britannica ImageQuest Access millions of images which are rights-cleared for non-commercial, educational use.
  • Explora for Elementary Schools
    An Ebsco research database designed especially for elementary school-age children, rich in graphics with easy-to-browse categories. It includes the American Heritage Children's Dictionary, Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia, and more.
  • Kids InfoBits
    For our youngest researchers in Kindergarten through Grade 5, KI features a colorful, visually appealing graphical interface. "The curriculum-related, age appropriate, full-text content is from the best elementary reference sources and magazines. This database covers geography, current events, the arts, science, health, people, government, history, sports, and more." KI also contains lots of images, maps, charts, and tables. And Merriam-Webster's Elementary Dictionary too!

    Access thousands of maps, and geography tools and activities galore from this interactive database, which also features content from National Geographic. There are even maps designed especially for budding map readers in Kindergarten – Grade 3, as well as online games in "Learn & Play". All maps are printable too.
  • National Geographic Virtual Library
    Features the entire magazine archive 1888 - present
  • Primary Search
    Primary Search provides full text for nearly 100 of the most popular children's magazines. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990. PS also includes a collection of more than 1.2 million images of relevant photos, maps and flags to aid kids in learning.
