Chris Petroff '11 is continuing both his education and his competitive running career at the University of Pittsburgh. A second-year graduate student in Pitt's Ph.D. program in chemistry, Petroff runs with the school's club cross country and track and field teams. This season, Petroff set personal records in every event from the 400m through the marathon, including: 15:46 on the track in the 5000m run; 1:12 total time with a 5:31 per mile pace in the half marathon; 2:46 in the Pittsburgh marathon.

As a graduate student at Pitt, Petroff has conducted extensive research on piezoelectric polyurethane foams, and works as a teaching assistant.

Notes Assistant Dean of Faculty Steve Palmer, who coached Petroff at Taft, "Chris's achievements in the classroom and on the track effectively reflect Taft's "whole student" approach and commitment to education."
