Mr. Courtney Dignan
Courtney P. Dignan joins Taft from St. Mary’s of Lynn (MA), where he served as Chair of the Mathematics Department. In this role, he directed the department’s curriculum and pedagogical strategy, served as a member of the school’s Instructional Leadership Team, and founded the Advanced Studies Team to mentor St. Mary’s top students. His leadership was instrumental in implementing wholesale curriculum changes and remediation efforts that drove a 100-point increase in the school’s mean math SAT scores over a two-year period. His students achieved exceptional results in AP courses, posting a 100-percent pass rate with a mean score of 4.83.
Prior to teaching, Courtney had a distinguished career in finance, culminating in his role as a Portfolio Manager where he outperformed over 80-percent of his peers and managed a two-time Lipper award-winning financial services fund. Driven by a desire to apply his background in applied mathematics to positively impact young people, he transitioned to education in 2018.
Courtney holds a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a U.S. Department of Defense NSEP scholarship recipient, and is completing his MAT in Mathematics at Salem State University. Courtney lives on campus with his wife, Liz, their children, Jack ’27 and Amelia ’29, and their dog, Oski.
