Dr. Padraig Lawlor
Pádraig joins Taft after four years at Canterbury School where he served as department chair, AP history teacher, theology teacher, dorm head, writing lab instructor, and soccer coach. A native of Ireland, he earned his Ph.D. in history from Purdue University. Pádraig, or Podge as he is known, also holds an M.Phil. in Early Modern History from Trinity College Dublin, as well as a Higher Diploma in Irish History and a B.A. in History and English from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. Prior to his tenure at Canterbury, Pádraig served as an assistant professor of history at Saint Leo University in Florida, where he taught an extensive range of courses in European, US, and World History. He also taught in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of South Florida and completed pedagogical training at Purdue during his doctoral studies. He is an AP reader for the College Board and is an active scholar and writer, regularly contributing to the field of Early Modern European History through research publications, conference presentations, and scholarly collaborations. Pádraig lives in nearby Middlebury with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three cats: Lionel, Keaton, and Winnie.
