Hiro Suzuki brings over 15 years of professional, collegiate, academy and youth soccer coaching experience to Taft with a strong track record in developing high level student-athletes and professional athletes. He will be leading the varsity boys soccer program as the head coach and will be joining the Math Department faculty. Previous to his time at Taft, Hiro coached World Cup winning players at the Houston Dash women’s professional club (NWSL), was the Assistant Coach at Yale University for the Varsity Men’s Soccer team, served as the Formation Phase Director & Head Coach (U13-U15) at Houston Dynamo Academy and most recently coached at HTX, the largest youth soccer club in the Houston area. Hiro has coached and developed more than a dozen players who signed first team contracts and/or received youth level national team camp invitations from the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Finland and Egypt.

Originally from San Diego, CA, Hiro was a four-year starter at Yale University, where he graduated Cum laude in 2000 with a B.A. in Economics. Recognized as a three-time All-Ivy player, Hiro captained Yale to the NCAA Sweet 16 as a senior and after graduating, he joined Minnesota Thunder of A-League as a training player, later signing with San Diego Gauchos of D3 Pro League. Hiro returned to school after his playing career and completed his MBA at the UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2006. Hiro lives on campus with his wife Leanne and their son Kai and daughters Emi and Reina.
