Loss 0-3
It was a brisk afternoon on Canterbury's turf. The Canterbury offense showed immediate urgency to push towards their offense. Only 3 minutes into the game, the Canterbury offense capitalized on a fast break towards the right side of the field to find the back of the goal. Canterbury quickly regained possession after the restart and drew a corner. Kara Ro stepped up at a crucial moment by making a defensive stop on a Canterbury shooter at the top of the circle. Valeria D'Virgilio used her quickness and off-ball awareness to anticipate and successfully intercept a Canterbury pass, giving the Rhinos a fast break opportunity as Chloe Meuse carried the ball towards the goal. Canterbury's solid defense pushed the play up field which resulted in a 2-0 finish to the first half. The temperatures continued to drop but that didn't stop the Rhinos from fighting hard. Vanessa Norton made her debut returning from an injury leaving her out for several weeks. She worked hard with Lucy McGinnis, Lucy Rand, and Valerie Thomas on the midfield line, communicating with the offense and defense. Canterbury drew another corner and scored off of a rebound to make the score 3-0. Lucy McGinnis came firing down the field, lifting the ball over Canterbury's defense and to draw an offensive corner. Chloe Meuse inserted the ball towards Lucy as she took a strong and accurate shot on goal. Chloe was on the left post ready for the rebound as the ball trickled out of bounds. A stellar moment of opportunity for the Rhinos. A strong performance by Claire Welch this afternoon as she had a record high of 6 saves in goal!
