Win 34-0
On a picturesque afternoon, Taft defeated a well-coached and hard-working Exeter, 34-0. After a scoreless first quarter, running back, Teely Rhyne ‘19, got the Rhinos on the board with a nine yard scamper up the middle. The second quarter would also see captain, Nolan Grooms ‘19, connect twice with wideout, Diante Vines ‘20, on completions of fifty-six and fifteen yards to give Taft a 20-0 halftime lead. The Rhinos continued their offensive success in the second half by putting two more scores on the board courtesy of a Teely Rhyne ‘19 plunge over the goalline from fifteen yards out and Nolan Grooms flying down the right sideline from forty five yards. Mashod Harrison led all Rhinos receivers with seven receptions for ninety six yards. On defense, Mac Culbertson ‘19 led a stout Taft defense by posting eight combined tackles including three that went for a loss. Linebacker Zach Derrish ‘20 also posted two sacks in his first career start. This was Taft’s first shutout since blanking Choate in 2009. Taft returns to action this Saturday, September 22, as they they make the beautiful drive to northwest Connecticut and take on the always tough Salisbury Crimson Knights on the hilltop. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm.
