Tie 1-1
Taft and Brunswick played to a hard-fought draw in Rhinos’ season-opener. The early minutes of the match were played with high intensity, and both teams created scoring opportunities. As the first half progressed, Taft seemed to have the edge in terms of possession, and in fifteenth minute, a quick combination of passes put the ball at the feet of Jordan Miller on the flank. Miller beat his defender and lofted the ball to the back post, where it was met by an onrushing Aaron Skeene. Skeene directed the ball into the corner of Brunswick’s goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. However, two minutes later, Brunswick responded when they sent in a cross to Taft’s penalty area. The Rhinos could only partially clear the ball, and a Brunswick player lofted the ball into Taft’s goal to draw Brunswick level. In the second half the Rhinos pushed for the go-ahead goal, but the Brunswick defense stood firm, and their goalkeeper made several important saves. The match ended with the score knotted at one. In the end, it was somewhat of a frustrating result for the Rhinos, but the season is young, and The Big Red are eager to improve when the team travels to Westminster on Wednesday.
