In a highly anticipated Founders League match, Taft and Choate played to a goalless draw on Wednesday evening. Despite the lack of scoring, the game was an exciting affair under the lights at Choate. Each team was able to generate scoring opportunities throughout the first half, and the Choate goalkeeper and Taft’s goalkeeper Shayan Karimi were called into action multiple times to punch away a cross or make an important save. In the second half, Taft maintained the majority of the possession, but the winning goal remained elusive. Sammed Bawa rang the post with a long shot, a header from Micah Umeh struck the bottom of the cross bar, and Marvin Sibanda sent a shot just wide of the post. As Taft pressed to win the game, Choate defended with determination and remained dangerous on the counterattack. In the end, neither team could find the back of the net, and the two sides were forced to share the spoils. Micah Umeh turned in a particularly impressive performance for The Big Red, and with the shutout, Shayan Karimi and the Rhinos have now played 670 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal. The Rhinos will now have to prepare for a challenging match on the road against the defending New England Champions, Loomis.
