Win 9-1
Kent, CT – Taft continued its winning season on the road with a dominating 9-1 victory over its gracious hosts on a frigid and rainy afternoon. Mayan Ewert ’20 dribbled through the Kent half after an assist by Spencer Shin ’21 to score the first goal of the match in the 7th minute. Ewert would score yet again two minutes later after an assist by Tucker Cassady ’20, wriggling between his markers and getting behind Kent’s backline with nifty dribbling. The Taft team continued to chip away at the Kent defense and found the net once more in the closing stages of the first half, as Edvin Tran Hoac ’20 scored an excellent long shot following a quick pass by Peter Yu ’20 in the 27th minute. Although Kent scored in the 38th minute, it would ultimately be Taft who continued racking up goals in the second half. Edvin Tran Hoac scored his second goal of the day after an assist by Nixon Jennings ’22. Tate Phillips ’21 got off the mark after solid pass and move play with Edvin Tran Hoac in the 55th minute, and C.J. D’Virgilio ’20 scored five minutes later after the Kent goalkeeper initially saved Phillips’ shot on goal. In one of the best plays of the game, Tucker Cassady made his way through several defenders, made a wall pass to Ewert, and scored through the Kent goalkeeper’s legs in the 63rd minute. Three minutes later, the pair created another play, and Cassady scored in the 66th minute with an assist from Ewert. To top off the day, Ewert earned his hat-trick after netting into the top-right corner from Will de Luca’s ’21 pass in the 75th minute. The team played well as a unit, and contributing to the victory were the strong performances of goalkeepers Sean Dunbar ’20 and Elijah Cohen ’21, who respectively had four and two saves. The boys play their next game away at Choate in what will be one of the most challenging games of the season. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
