Rumsey Hall School
Win 2-1
The Taft Boys Thirds soccer team traveled up to Rumsey Hall yesterday to meet an always-tough group of lads in blue. Both teams came out fired up and the play went back and forth over the entire field with Taft goal keeper Bryce Smith making a few good saves for the lads in white. Finally in about the 23rd minute, Tucker Mullen intercepted a Rumsey pass back to their keeper and tallied Taft’s first goal of the season. The first half ended with Taft ahead one nil. The second half progressed similarly to the first with Rumsey really pressing and trying to even the score at one. They finally did so with only eight minutes remaining in an 80 minute match. Rather than getting downcast, our boys invigorated their effort and earned the winner only a couple of minutes later. Taft earned a throw-in deep in the Rumsey side of the field. We brought forward a great weapon in Darren McNerney and his very long throw. Darren tossed the ball directly in front of the Rumsey goal where Jeffrey Ricciardelli and Tucker converged and somehow got the ball by the Rumsey goalkeeper perhaps with a header that earns great acclaim within the rest of the team. Rumsey then really pressed the issue and earned two more good chances that went wide and then off of the top of the cross-bar. The final whistle blew and Taft had earned a hard-fought victory over some younger but still very talented lads who should be proud of their effort. Jack Nogales played well for Taft in the center and Alex Downey was a stalwart for Taft at left back for the entire 80 minutes. Our next match is today at home v Deerfield at 3pm. See you there!
