Tie 2-2
Taft welcomed Founders League foe, Miss Porter’s, to Taft for the last of a three game stand. Miss Porter’s is 8-0 and has not let in a goal yet this season. Taft has been looking to turn the corner this year and a result in this game would be a great step forward for the Rhinos. While Taft did not play with their full emotion for 80 minutes they did enough against Porters to earn a 2-2 draw. The Big Red would twice fall behind in the match and twice draw level. The first half saw both squads try to possess and play in control. The result was a 0-0 half with both teams having opportunities to score. Taft did not truly threaten the MPS net while Claudia Torres ’19 came up big for the Big Red as she has done numerous times already this season. The game would open up in the second half. Porters would open the scoring when a costly turnover led to an opportunity behind the back line of Taft. Patience Kum ’21 would draw Taft level off the dribble. Kum has shown calmness on the ball and ablilty to create for herself or others depending on how opponents defend her. Kum broke through and brought the score to 1-1. Porters would immediately respond and regain the lead after another costly turnover in the Taft back line. It would look like Taft would not find an equalizer but as they have done in many games this year, Taft’s final attack proved fruitful. Once the Rhinos finally found some emotion, pushed hard on 50-50’s, won some headers, and pushed MPS back and pinned them deep. Captain Emilee Adami ’19 in another fine game entirely embodied the Taft emotion seemed to lift the Taft morale each time she touched the ball. Adami built up the left with the wing and center to get behind the Daisy back line and fire a cross to the back post. Kum would be on the back post and would not waste the opportunity to put the header in for Taft’s second goal on the day. In an electric final minutes neither team would find the net and the game would end in a just 2-2 draw. The team keeps taking little steps forward in playing the best teams well. Taft will travel to Class A foe Choate on Saturday in what is always a tough, demanding matchup. Kickoff is at 2:30.
