Win 4-0
After a strong practice reinforcing the ideals of what makes this team great – grit, energy, attitude, togetherness, and support Taft went on the road to take on Kent. Taft would start strong but only carry a goal lead into halftime. The second 40 is when Taft broke open the game on the scoreboard and secured a strong 4-0 win. Taft almost took the opening kickoff down and scored with their first offensive possession. The Big Red would build up the wing with Captain Emilee Adami ’19 sending a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Halle Wagner ’20 would come screaming in and connect with a powerful header. The ball would go over the bar but the tone was set for the game. The Rhinos played some great team defense led by Elly MacKay ’20 and Mady Lander ’19. Natalie Hoday ’21 and Erina Piri ’19 had solid games on the edges to secure a shutout on the road. Kayla Thomas ’20 put in another solid performance controlling the center and starting so many of Taft’s most dangerous possessions. Thomas would start off the scoring near 30 minutes into the first half. From outside the 18, Thomas’ shot would sail into the upper half of the net and Taft would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime. Patience Kum ’21 would get the second half under way to put the game solidly in Taft’s favor. Amanda Graziano ’21 and Sophie Webb ’19 would exchange beautifully on top of the Kent 18 with Webb getting behind the back line and getting taken down before she could shoot. Kum would hammer home the penalty kick to take a 2-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Kum would add a second when Adami’s cross reached her in the center. Graziano would add the fourth and final goal on a shot from distance. All in a Taft uniform were part of the victory. Eliza Ford ’22 played solid minutes in net with one save. Liz Barré ’19 and Paton Roberts ’21 had great moments on the wing. Caroline Messer ’22 did a great job playing on both ends of the field. Alex Preziotti ’21 and Kristina Cornelio ’20 were solid in the back to secure the shutout. Anna Koziol ’20 and Susanna Adams ’22 were dangerous in the attack. It was a good team win as Taft’s offense and defense worked together for a dominant performance. The Big Red has a season-high 13 corners and 14 shots on frame. The Rhinos will look to continue their good play when they host Westminster in the penultimate home match. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm.
