Win 3-2
Today was the match of the season thus far, with the Rhinos coming back from two games down to beat the Pelicans in five games. The first game showed Taft to be a little rusty from long weekend and we quickly dropped the set 15-25. The second set was not much different as the Rhinos fell behind early to some great Loomis serving and were unable to catch up, losing 16-25. Minor lineup changes proved the spark in game 3, with Annabel Firestone moving outside and swinging freely -- she ended the game with seven kills. Backrow players Tiffany Tam, Annie Segalas, Carter Amaden and Taline Almasian started to get crisp passers to our two setters, Caro Gura and Katy Hrazdira, which allowed our hitter to get some kills against a stout defense. Ellie Ketchum earned six kills and Maile Kuyper led all players with an impressive eleven kills. Keren Egu came off the bench and was not afraid to take some swings, ending with three kills. Taft won the third game easily, 25-14, and carried that momentum into the 4th game. The 4th game saw a true moment of sportsmanship by Loomis: with Taft trailing 16-19 in the most evenly matched game played yet, the referee called a serve out and awarded Loomis the point. A Loomis player corrected the referee and said that it was not Loomis's point and the called needed to be overturned. Instead of Loomis going up 16-20 and looking to close out the match, Taft was able to rally at 17-19 and win a tough 4th game 25-22. By the final game, the momentum had swung fully towards Taft, and won the fifth game handily 15-6. This was an incredible team effort, highlighted by Maily Kuyper's pancake save in the fourth game and a collective attitude of never giving up. Taft moves to 6-1 on the season and looks to travel to face an always difficult Choate squad on Saturday.
