Loss 1-4
The first jv game of the season was an exciting contest, and after a few slow shifts, the game turned into an end-to-end affair. Kent scored early, but Katy Hrazdira tied the game with a nice full-ice rush. Kent would go up 2-1 late in the first, and that score held through an even second period. Martha Lohuis and Betsy Good provided some great offensive chances, accounting for over half of our 20 shots on goal, but a number of blocked shots and good saves by the Kent goalie kept Taft out of the net for the rest of the game. First-time goalie Hartley Messer was solid in net, piling up 19 total saves, including several great glove saves and one stuffed breakaway. Emily Riccardi, Avery Comish and Olivia Wivestad all had good scoring chances, as Taft showed some hunger around the net, and some nice open ice passing as the game wore on. Two late third period goals would seal the win for Kent, but the speed and level of play made for a great first game and an encouraging final skate before the start of exams. Total shots were 20 for Taft, 23 for Kent.
