Taft traveled to Pomfret on Wednesday looking to continue their success in 2019 with another win. At puck drop, both sides struggled to find momentum for much of the first period, the puck changing possession early and often as the teams battled for the upper hand, as well as the first goal. Strong defense on both ends, as well as a number of turnovers, prevented a score in the first period. Taft came back onto the ice in the second wanting to open up scoring and start building their lead and that is just what they did. Liv King finished a beautiful goal off an assist from Morgan Trimper to give the Rhinos a lead early in the second. Pomfret’s goalie responded to Taft’s efforts for the rest of the period until Morgan Trimper managed to break through and score off of Claudia Vira’s rebound, also assisted by Piper Desorcie in the final two minutes, ending the second period 2-0. Desorcie kick-started the momentum early in the third with a breakaway goal. The scoring was not yet finished for the Rhinos and Kristina Cornelio, assisted by Shannon Bucci and Morgan Trimper, scored with 7:34 remaining to push Taft’s commanding lead to 4-0. Pomfret finally managed to get on the board on a breakaway goal, ending the bout 4-1. The Rhinos look forward to their game at Choate this Saturday!
