Win 5-4
In a storybook ending to an amazing season, the Rhinos walked off the Pelicans in the bottom of the 9th to win 5-4 and secure the Founders League Title. The Rhinos started the scoring in the 3rd with a homerun by leadoff batter Nolan Grooms. Cole Torino then singled, was advanced to second on a walk by Carson Greene, and scored by Walker Wonham. the Pelicans came back with 2 unearned runs in the 5th to tie the game. The Rhinos scored again in the 6th on single by Wonham who was advanced to second on an error and to third on a perfectly executed sac bunt by Andrew Ebersol. Dom Patille singled in Wonham to give the Rhinos the lead. The Pelicans scored again in 7th to send the game to extra innings. In the top of the 9th, the Pelicans hit a homerun to put them ahead 4-3. The Rhinos did not get down or give up and rallied back. Higgins earned a full count walk and was subsequently scored on a triple to left center by Nolan Grooms. Torino and Greene reached base via the walk and with a 1-0 count, Justin Humenay laced a single to right center to drive in Grooms and walk the Rhinos off and to a Founders League Championship! Justin Humenay threw 6 innings giving up 2 unearned runs and racking up 10 strikeouts. Nolan Grooms got the win going 3 innings and giving up 2 runs while striking out 4. The Rhinos finished the season 16-1 overall and with a 14-1 Founders League record. The team batting average was .327 while the ERA was a stingy 2.03. This Rhino team was amongst the most resilient I have seen, fighting through adversity that took a number of different forms throughout the season. The common denominator was a willingness to win that proved to be indomitable.
