Loss 6-0
Despite a valiant effort and an improved second half, the JV Field Hockey team fell to a strong Greenwich Academy squad on Wednesday afternoon. The defense played their tails off for the full 50 minutes but Taft had a hard time getting the ball past the midfield. The first GA goal came in the 17th minute, following a scramble in front of keeper, Liv Karpas. They followed up with a strong shot to the back of the cage a minute later. Taft defenders, Greta Cole, Mary Hayes, Katie Salnikoff and Caroline Cooper scrambled in the circle to protect their goalie, resulting in 6 corners for GA, 3 of which were successful for the Gators. Mid-fielders and attack worked hard in the second half to move the needle. Spencer Diamond, Bridget Brockelman and Lulus Brauer and Bradley gave it their all to get the ball up the field. Taft had a few more opportunities in the latter half of the game with great plays from Anna Wice, Kyliegh Voity and Talisa Pham-Quang. Unfortunately, however, the squad was not able to capitalize on any of the breakaways. Taft drew three corners in the second half though each was thwarted by a strong GA defense. GA managed one more goal at the 14 minute mark but Taft held the Gators to a scoreless final 10 minutes of the game, maintaining their energy despite the heat and exhaustion. Definitely a tough day for the Rhinos, but as ever, the team maintained poise and positive attitudes all afternoon and we look forward to our next contest against the Fighting Daisy's of Ms. Porter's School on Saturday. Go Big Red!
