Sacred Heart Greenwich
Loss 0-4
Taft might have lost 0–4 to an extremely talented Sacred Heart team, but the Rhinos played their strongest game yet. Though it looked like the team was going to have to play without a goalie, Isabelle Smith volunteered last minute, and she was an enormous asset to Taft, recording multiple saves in both halves. Sacred Heart scored three fast goals in the first five minutes of the game. This undoubtedly put Taft on its heels. Despite this setback, the team rallied to hold Sacred Heart to just one more goal in the remaining 35 minutes of play. Andrea Grandisson stayed glued to her player in the backfield, and Alicia Sze's and Anna-Lee Lynch's patient defense and solid sticks prevented Sacred Heart from finding success. Mackenzie Kloss, typically center back, clocked an easy five miles during the game, as she sprinted tirelessly from the defensive to the offensive end, causing turnovers in Taft's favor wherever she went. Brooke Adair and Tatum Brewer joined Anna-Lee in the midfield and picked off a number of Sacred Heart's passes. Both girls did a commendable job of keeping their sticks down and the ball in the offensive end. Samantha Gulden was a sniper in all areas of the field, cutting ahead of the other team to pick off pass after pass. A forward, Maheen Ahmad showed her versatility, as she made several runs into the offensive circle and pressured the ball as it was coming out. Of course, the Thirds team would have enjoyed a victory. Still, the nine girls worked ceaselessly and played some genuinely pretty field hockey for 40 minutes with no subs.
