Playing in front of a large crowd on Parents’ Day, The Big Red produced an excellent team performance to earn a 3-0 victory over Kent. Taft opened the scoring in the 7th minute when James Donaldson quickly restarted play after a foul at midfield. Donaldson passed the ball to KK Baffour, who then found Sammed Bawa slicing through the Kent defense. Bawa blasted the ball into the far corner of the goal, giving the home side an early lead. Later in the first half, Charlie Shanks got loose down the flank, beat his defender and squared the ball across the Kent goal. Baffour met the ball and powered it into the goal to double Taft’s lead. In the second half, Diky Izmirlian stepped on to the pitch and made an immediate impact. After a corner kick from Baffour was headed back across goal by Donaldson, Izmirlian lifted the loose ball into the roof of the net to provide Taft the insurance goal. Throughout the game, Kent was not without its opportunities, but Taft goalkeepers Chris Murphy and Brooks Reed each made a couple nice saves to keep a clean sheet for The Rhinos. Towards the end of the game, Nick Kenerson and C.J. D’Virgilio were reliable on defense, holding off the Kent attack, while Peter Denious, Oury Diane, and Matthew Quiros-Newton fueled a dynamic Rhino offense. The Big Red will now prepare for a stretch of four tough games, beginning with a home match against Choate, to close out the regular season.
