Win 5-0
With five different goal-scorers, The Big Red earned a 5-0 victory at Canterbury on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. Sebastian Mañon began the scoring in spectacular fashion when he blasted the ball from outside of the penalty area into the top corner of the goal. Mañon’s goal, his first of the season, came in the 9th minute following a pass from Oury Diane. Though Taft pressed hard for the second goal, Canterbury’s defense stood firm for much of the second half. It was not until the 42nd minute when Taft found the back of the net again, and it came from a fantastic individual effort on the part of Matthew Quiros-Newton. Quiros-Newton chased down a long pass, stole the ball from a Canterbury defender, and beat the goalkeeper with a skillful finish to double Taft’s lead. Five minutes into the second half, KK Baffour drilled a corner kick to the near post, where Jordan Miller deflected the ball just over the goal line to make the score 3-0. In the 62nd minute, Oury Diane picked up his second assist of the day with a sweet pass to Sammed Bawa, who buried the ball into the corner of the goal, extending Taft’s lead to four goals. Towards the end of the match, Ben Osset was hauled down in the Canterbury penalty area, and Charlie Shanks made no mistake with the penalty kick, tallying his first goal as a Rhino. Chris Murphy earned the shutout in goal, while Jayce Fraser, Nick Kenerson, and Ethan Hindle turned in strong performances defensively. Zobran Elias and Diky Izmirlian provided plenty of energy through the midfield. Up next, The Big Red have a huge match-up on the road against and undefeated Williston side.
