Loss 3-2
Despite playing some fantastic soccer and battling until the bitter end, The Big Red suffered its first loss of the season, finishing on the wrong side of a 3-2 match against Berkshire. Berkshire took the lead in the fourth minute of the match and added to that lead later in the first half. Down two goals, The Rhinos refused to give in and pulled a goal back when Oury Diane played a pass to put Sammed Bawa in on goal. Bawa tucked the ball inside the goal to cut the deficit in half. The goal was Bawa’s 63rd of his Taft career, pulling himself level with Matteo Mangiardi ’17 for the most goals in Taft Boys’ Soccer history. Momentum seemed to be shifting in Taft’s favor, but Berkshire scored the next goal when a long-range shot was deflected into Taft’s net. Yet, The Big Red fought back again. In the 77th minute, KK Baffour served a corner kick into the Berkshire penalty area, and, after Jordan Miller got a touch on the ball, James Donaldson powered the ball over the goal line to pull Taft back within a goal. Even though The Rhinos created numerous opportunities in the last ten minutes, the final whistle blew with the score 3-2 in in favor of Berkshire. With a record of seven wins and one loss, Taft will now prepare for a Founders League match against Trinity-Pawling.
