Despite putting forth a strong performance on Monday night in Cheshire, The Rhinos were forced to settle for a draw against a hard-working Cheshire Academy side. Taft got on the board early when a crisp pass from James Donaldson, followed by a good bit of deception from Sammed Bawa, found Cole Torino inside Cheshire Academy’s penalty area. Torino finished the opportunity with class, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. The home team fought back however, and evened the game ten minutes later. In the second half, Taft began to dominate possession and create plenty of chances. However, Cheshire Academy’s goalkeeper made a number of excellent saves, making it difficult for Taft recapture the lead. In the 72nd minute, Taft found the back of the net from a Sammed Bawa free kick, and as the Rhinos continued to press for the third goal, it appeared as though they would hold on for the win. Unfortunately for The Big Red, with minutes left to play, a Taft clearance over thirty yards from goal was blocked by the Cheshire Academy forward with force. The ball soared over goalkeeper Chris Murphy’s head to level the score in atypical fashion. As the clock wound down, The Big Red had chances to win the game, but yet again, Cheshire’s defense and goalkeeper stood firm to preserve the draw. While Taft was undoubtedly disappointed by the result, the team remains proud of its record (14-1-1) and excited to take on rival Hotchkiss on Saturday to conclude the regular season.
