Win 9-0
On a warm Saturday afternoon in mid-October, the Taft Boys Thirds soccer team earned our first victory of the year with a nine nil win over the young lads from Trinity-Pawling. Both teams came out energetically after the opening kick-off with T-P earning an early opportunity that was thwarted by Taft goalkeeper Aidan Chan. Taft applied some pressure that finally led to a goal in the tenth minute as Brendan Staines crossed the ball to Stephen Mayer who passed the soccer ball into the T-P net. Brendan earned another goal just two minutes later off of a scrum in front of the goal to put Taft up two-nil. There was a bit of a scoring drought before Matt Sheinberg sent a long ball forward that Connor Walsh converted into Taft’s third goal of the match in the 25th minute. Brian Chi earned his first goal of the year in the 29th minute and Brendan & Stephen connected again in the 33rd minute. Brendan scored again in the 35th minute due to a fine individual effort of gaining possession in the T-P box and shooting low and near post. Conner assisted Stephen in the 40th minute to put Taft up seven nil at the half. Apparently Stephen and Brendan both earned hat-tricks in the first half. Our lads decided to take it a little easier in the second half with only Abdullah Alkazemi scoring in the 54th minute and Brian scoring again in the 59th minute. The final whistle blew and our team and fans cheered our first win of the year. Both Ryan Egan and Aidan Chan played well for Taft in the goal. Taft’s back line of Tyme Kumthampinig, Ayden Cinel, Alex “Bang” Macdonald and Kev Gunawan played very well and almost the entire match, as well. Our next match is at Canterbury next Wednesday 16Oct19 after Taft’s Fall Long Weekend. Wish us good luck that day.
