Choate Rosemary Hall
Win 4-1
On a drizzly Wednesday afternoon, the Taft Boys Thirds soccer team traveled to Wallingford to play an always tough Choate side. After an extended warmup due to a late arriving referee, the match started with Taft very flat due to the extra time and quickly gave up a goal due defensive non-communication and non-toughness. After a pretty harsh yelling at by yours truly, our lads started to play a little better even in tough, wet conditions. The ball really skipped today, let me tell you. We still attempted to kick the ball through Choate defenders, however, even at this late date, deep sigh. Taft finally got on the board in the 18th minute as Matt Sheinberg won the ball in the midfield and passed it forward to Owen Wyman who assisted Connor Walsh. Connor received the ball, doubled back against the flow of play and put in a lovely shot far post. Choate “earned” a PK in the 30th minute but shot it wide. The first half ended with the score tied at one but with our team very hopeful of a positive result ultimately. The second half started with good energy from both sides and some real back and forth action. Ryan Egan made a couple of good saves for Taft in the goal just as Aidan Chan had in the first half. Taft went ahead in the 54th minute as Connor Walsh notched his second goal of the match by recovering a loose ball in the Choate defensive third and pushing a low shot by the Choate ‘keeper. Then in the 60th minute Matt Sheinberg earned his own goal with an own goal as he sent a strong freekick off the back of a Choate defender. Then in the 80th minute Connor earned his hat trick with a nice low shot on a break away as Choate sent many players forward and got caught up. Overall, this was a nice win for our lads and finally two in a row! Once again the back line did a fine job. Tyme, Kevyn, TJ and Ayden were stought in defense after that initial goal along with Robert, Bang (Alex Macdonald) and F-bomb (Alex Peng) as substitutes. David Ma also played very well off the bench and almost scored a spectacular head ball goal off a corner, hit the post and out! David is very good in the air and fearless, too. Our next match is our last home match this Saturday v Loomis at 2:30PM. See you there!
