Win 3-0
Taft vs Greenwich Academy Win 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-15) The Taft thirds volleyball team improved their record to 2-0 after defeating a talented Greenwich Academy squad at home on Saturday afternoon. The girls have been working hard in practice to improve their skill, and are starting to really come together as a team. The Rhinos won in three straight sets by the scores of 25-15, 25-9, and 25-15. The team had four goals before the game: to communicate and make sure that every ball was called; to compete and to stay positive even when things aren’t going well; to get at least 75% of the serves in; and to have fun. All four goals were met, and every single player contributed to the win. The Rhinos had a total of 68 serves and had only 13 service errors (81% in), with an impressive number of aces (23). The team was led by the strong back row play of Julissa, Kate, Merrill, Mia, Nicole, and Susannah; these players neutralized the attack of GA and kept many plays alive. The setters (Angie K, Becca, and Brooke) did an amazing job of setting up the front row players and giving them many opportunities for kills. And the front row of Angel, Angie M, Emily, Kaitlin, and Skylar were consistently strong all match long, earning several impressive kills. The team put pressure on the visiting GA team by making controlled passes, great sets, and many swings. The Rhinos are proud of their effort, but know that they still have plenty of room for improvement. They will enjoy a nice long weekend, and get back to work at practice on Tuesday.
