Win 37-6
In front of a boisterous and enthusiastic crowd, Taft raced to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back in cruising to a 37-6 victory over Trinity-Pawling on Saturday night. Taft received the opening kickoff and opened the scoring a few players later when Billy Daal ‘22 found a crease and sprinted 41 yards to the endzone. Steve Mayer ‘22 split the uprights and the Rhinos led 7-0. On the ensuing drive, Captain Nico Schwikal ‘22 and Joseph Nash ‘22 were key in forcing Trinity-Pawling to go three and out. The Pride’s punt was fielded by Jaylen Carter ‘23 who darted to his left and went untouched for a 64yard score. After forcing another punt, Taft went 43 yards in four plays as Nick Brown ‘23 hooked up with Carter on a deep ball into the endzone and Rockefeller Field was rockin’. Trinity-Pawling would answer with a touchdown though the extra point sailed wide left. Up 21-6, Taft would add one more touchdown in the first half as Brown hit Schwikal on a middle screen for thirty one yards. The Rhinos would score twice more in the third quarter as Mayer blasted his first career field goal from 33 yards away and Daal capped the scoring with a 50 yard touchdown run. Final score 37-6. Taft’s next game is Saturday, October 9th as they host the Big Blue of Philips Academy for the first time since 1995. The kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm.
