Win 6-1
In a game that was much closer than the final score might suggest, Taft earned a 6-1 victory over Choate. Throughout the first half, Choate defended with intensity, constantly disrupting the Rhinos’ attack and preventing Taft’s shots from getting to the goalkeeper. Though Choate managed to create a few scoring opportunities in the opening moments, The Big Red struck first. After winning the ball deep in Choate’s end, KK Baffour whipped the ball around the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the goal to give the home side the lead. However, Choate responded minutes later when their forward got free on the wing and squared the ball to the front of Taft’s goal before it was slotted into the back of the net by the Wild Boars’ center midfielder. Taft regained the lead before halftime when Baffour converted a penalty kick after being tripped inside the penalty area. Taft controlled the second half from the start, scoring three goals in the first fifteen minutes of the second stanza. In the forty-sixth minute, Jordan Grivekov picked out Matt Quiros-Newtown with a cross, and Quiros-Newton needed only one touch to deflect the ball into the back of the net. Minutes later, Baffour’s free kick found the head of La Zai Outerbridge, who nodded the ball past the goalkeeper to make the score 4-1. Then, Grivekov was hauled down inside the penalty area, and Baffour converted his second penalty kick of the day to complete his hat trick. With time winding down, Patrick Gallagher made the score 6-1 when his long range effort skipped past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Alex Henderson, Zobran Elias, and Luca Zirener all turned in strong performances, particularly in the second half, to help Taft with this Founders League contest.
