Win 4-1
The Rhinos traveled to Suffield on their parents’ weekend to face a tough Suffield Tiger team in front of a large crowd. Taft created a few chances in the opening moments, but excellent team defending from the home side prevented The Big Red from finding the back of the net. The Tigers’ high pressure defense made things difficult for the Rhinos and even led to a few scoring chances of their own. However, Taft was able to break the scoreless deadlock in the seventeenth minute, when Nick Liebich headed home a corner kick from KK Baffour. With the lead, Taft continued to push numbers forward and earned another corner kick in the thirty-second minute. While the delivery from the corner was initially headed away from goal by a Suffield defender, Patrick Gallagher collected the ball at the top of the penalty area, took a touch, and unleashed a rocket into the upper right corner of the goal to double Taft’s lead. In the final minute of the first half, Taft was awarded a free kick in the attacking end of the field. Baffour quickly put the ball back in play, serving it to the back post where it was met by a charging Liebich, who again headed it past the goalkeeper to give Taft a 3-0 lead at halftime. In the fifty-eighth minute, Taft added to the lead when Matt Quiros-Newton created space for himself and delivered a cross into the penalty area. Baffour jumped to meet the ball and headed it just inside the post for the fourth goal of the match. Suffield continued to battle, and towards the end of the match, their forward forced a turnover in Taft’s defensive end that led to a goal, making the score 4-1 in favor of the visitors. The game ended without another goal, and in the end, it was a solid team performance on the road for Taft.
