It was a great opening day to start off our season battling both Exeter and Andover at home. Although we didn’t get the outcomes we wanted, we did come away with some very important learning objectives. Exeter will be one of the strongest teams in New England this year with their powerful attack; nevertheless, we were able to put up some effective blocks and our defensive passing got stronger as we gained confidence throughout the match. Andover was a battle and we came close, but just ran out of steam. This game proved to us that we can compete with schools twice our size and that we just have to commit, believe, trust in each other, and limit our unforced errors. These fundamentals will come in time and we will continue to work on them, so we can play to the best of our abilities. We are a young team with only one player returning to the court with varsity volleyball experience under her belt! The varsity “mindset” is something very special and we know we will get there with continued hard work and focus. The future looks very bright and we are going to take one game at a time as well as play hard for one point at a time. It is exciting, inspirational, and fulfilling to know that our potential is there; we just need more “game time” experience which will be so valuable to all our rookies!
