Loss 2-3
Saturday saw Taft defend against Deerfield. We were confident that a Rhino could undoubtedly break down a Green door, and we took to the pitch with this mentality. Due to Long weekend, we were down key players, but we had home advantage and made up for the lack of numbers with pure spirit. Oliver Eastman and Jack Dodd worked tirelessly to out dribble Deerfield, but it would seem that our opponents have reinforced their green doors with some steel. 10 minutes into the game, Deerfield fired a shot right on frame, putting them on the board first. However, this didn’t sit well with Jett Honig and Jack Dodd so 10 minutes after the first goal, Jack sprinted to the left corner with the ball as Jett broke through from mid field, received a pass and let his right foot do all the talking. This temporary partnership brought the score to 1-1 which ended the first half. We were very optimistic during halftime, but the Green Doors were clearly unfazed and came back with new found vigor. While Jefferson Kao was able to slip a cheeky pass to Oliver Eastman who sank the ball into the net with his lucky left foot, 10 minutes in, our opponents locked their doors tightly after that. Jack Dodd and Oliver were left knocking on a secured door while our opponents linked up well on their right side. While our back line which included Carl Roux, Henry Hughes, Hudson Deck, and Beau Woody fought bravely, the Green doors kicked a shot right through our Mail slot around 16 minutes left of the second half. While we desperately tried to respond, being down to 15 players, our players were absolutely depleted; and while Chris Joszczyk’s skilled dribbling breathed some life into us, it was not enough. 3 minutes left of the game, the Green Doors bounced a shot from right field bringing the game to a close with our loss. The final score 2-3. We will recover and we will persevere, we are Tafties.
