Win 7-2
The Taft Thirds soccer team traveled to Pawling, NY on another perfectly lovely fall afternoon to play the Pride of Trinity-Pawling. The Rhinos won today’s match seven-two so I will resort to bullets again to describe the goals scored and the overall flow of the match. Taft opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Jack Dodd once again flanked the opposition’s defense and sent a lovely low cross to Oliver “Scav” Eastman who first sent a shot off the T-P ‘keeper but then headed in the rebound to earn himself a $10 Jig gift certificate courtesy of yours truly. I reward headball goals, saved PKs and balls booted off the goal line with Jig gift certificates. Jack and Oliver linked up again in the 8th minute this time on a corner kick. Jack then assisted Theo Charrington in the tenth minute on another corner that Theo sent in top shelf for his first goal of the year, I think. Chris Joszczyk then scored in the 20th minute after a little dipsy-doodle and then chipped the ‘keeper from about twenty yards. T-P scored in the 40th minute on a rebound off of a freekick. The first half then ended with Taft ahead four-one Taft opened the scoring in the second half in the 43rd minute as Chris took a ball in deep and sent another cross into Oliver that he basically tapped in for his third goal of the match, thus his nickname of “Scav” short for scavenger. But hey, he scores goals! That’s the important part. Next Beau Woody scored his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute off an assist from Carl Roux. Good for those lads for getting involved in the offense after doing good work all year on defense. Then in the 60th minute Jack Dodd hit the crossbar from distance and the rebound went directly to Angus Brown playing his first match in the field after playing goal all season long with Christian Barbuto. Christian also played in the field in the first half and played alright himself. T-P then scored their second goal of the match in the 77th minute after a scrum in front of the Taft goal that we failed to clear. We’ll work on that this week in practice. Overall our team played well today. Hudson Deck, Viktor Maag and James Hunt played well in the back and in the middle. Leo Pineda and Hiroki Tanaka got good time in the midfield, as well, and made some nice passes and played stout defense. Our next match is this Wednesday AT HOME (finally!) at 2:30PM. See you there!
