Win 4-2
On a freezing but sunny fall Wednesday afternoon, Taft JV Girls hosted Williston Northampton School. The game got off to a muddled start with both teams struggling to maintain possession. A moment of lost concentration in the Taft ranks saw Williston find the back of the net in the 9th minute. From there on, Taft began to get a better grip on the game and attacked the Williston goal with numerous shots but were unable to put one away. Despite frequent Taft attacks, it was Williston who scored again in the 28th minute. Despite this additional setback, Taft kept working on a way to break down the opposition but were unable to do so. The half ended 0-2 in Williston’s favor. With a few tactical changes and some wise words from many of the players at half-time, Taft began the second-half with a strong sense of determination and immediately put Williston under pressure. It took only three minutes before they had pulled a goal back with an excellent finish from Georgia Lowenberg. Williston were visibly rattled, and Taft continued to press with numerous plays coming close to finding another goal. 11 minutes into the half, the equalizer duly arrived with another superb swooping attack from Taft that ended with another Lowenberg goal. Despite being back on level terms, Taft were not satisfied and continued to pass and move with efficiency and intent. Amazingly, they found the back of the net yet again on the 20-minute mark, when Ellie Taylor capped a beautiful team move with a fabulous strike. It was all Taft from then on, and Lowenberg sealed a fantastic comeback victory with a looping, deflected shot with 10 minutes left in the game to make it 4-2 to Taft. The coaches are so proud of the team, especially considering that seven players were missing through either injury or illness, which meant many players had to adapt to new positions and many minutes. An amazing victory, and Taft are looking forward to their next game: a long trek to Northfield Mount Hermon.
