7-1
On an overcast and muggy day, the JV Girls team welcomed Suffield Academy with bright energy. With kickoff at 3pm, the team came out with strong energy - Georgia Lowenberg netted a goal in the first five minutes, assisted by Ellie Taylor. They didn’t stop there; in the 11th minute, Lane Childs was able to poach another goal with some clever pressing on a goal kick from the opposing team. The team closed out the half with another goal scored by Ellie Taylor with the assist by Liv Samuelson. The first half demonstrated great movement in the midfield from Cece Chatterjee and Bella Kembar who helped create shooting and crossing opportunities throughout the game. Likewise, Erin Arole, Clarisse Moucha, Vivian Peterson and Anavi Angst provided important impetus from the bench that maintained the pressure on Suffield. The defensive line - Dylan Carver, Emma Weitzel, Madison Kirkland, Caroline Bernard, Jane Hempel, Evangeline Webb, Libby Vermylen, Charlotte Van Ert and Jasset Millhiser - held the line so well that they didn’t allow Suffield a chance on goal. Despite not getting a touch on the ball, Mary Kidd Lindsey, first half goalie, communicated with the team and showed great leadership. After a productive halftime, the JV girls started the half with another goal by Ellie Taylor, assisted by Karina Thomas. A minute later, Georgia Lowenberg scored her second with Lane Childs assisting. And she didn’t stop there! Lowenberg scored the team’s first hattrick of the season, with a great shot outside the 18-yard box. Halfway through the second half, the team conceded a goal to a clever free-kick from Suffield. Nika Yemets, second half goalie, maintained great communication with her defensive line throughout the rest of the game. In the 70th minute, Emma Bernard nabbed her first goal in her Taft career, making the final score 7-1. The team walked away with bagels in hand and a sense of pride bringing home the season’s first win. The team is looking forward to playing Berkshire at home this coming Saturday at 2:45pm.
