The Ethel Walker School
Win 1-0
Taft JV Girls took on Ethel Walker in another away game with several injuries affecting the team prior to departure. Both goalies were unable to travel, and several midfielders and defenders did not make it on the bus either. With all that in mind, Taft put in an admirable performance and fought hard for the entirety of the game, especially considering they were not able to rely on many substitutions to give tired legs a rest. Ellie Taylor played a great ball into Lane Childs in the 10th minute of the game, and Childs finished with aplomb to put Taft one up. If anyone had predicted that this would be the final goal of the game, it would have seemed implausible. Taft attacked in waves time and again but could not put the ball beyond the Walker goalie, who was, quite simply, outstanding. The away side went into half-time leading 1-0. It was much of the same in the second half, with Taft peppering the Walker goal with shots only to be denied by the goalie or, on a few occasions, the post. In the end, the game ended 1-0, for a well-deserved, but hard-fought Taft victory. It should be noted that Taft had 29 shots saved, and on another day the scoreline may have better reflected Taft’s dominance. Special mention goes out to the team who represented Taft today; they are: Liv Samuelson, Evangeline Webb, Erin Arole, Madison Kirkland, Anavi Angst, Dylan Carver, Jane Hempel, Emma Bernard, Lane Childs, Caroline Bernard, Clarisse Moucha, Libby Vermylen, Jasset Millhiser, Emma Weitzel, Ellie Taylor, and Georgia Lowenberg. Extra special mention to Moucha, who donned the goalie’s gloves at the last minute but looked like she was born to play in the position. The coaches are proud of the team! On we go!
