Recap:
Taft traveled to Avon to play the Beavers who came into the game as the top ranked team in all of New England. Cooper Tantraporn got the start for the Rhinos, his second start on the mound all season. He was throwing to Omar Minaya behind the plate, who was catching for the second time in his life. Tantraporn was dialed in from the first inning, throwing with high velocity and a sharp breaking ball. Both teams were scoreless until the Rhinos put up four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Taft received a walk by JP Antonino, a single from Owen Palmer, and a walk from Cayden Van Dolah to load the bases. Noah Jettelson was hit by a pitch to drive in the first run of the game and then Oliver Lefkowitz worked a walk to drive in the second. Minaya then drilled a single to center field to drive in two more. Avon responded in the bottom of the fifth with two runs to make the game four to two. No more scoring would happen until the bottom of the eighth when Avon plated three and took a one run lead. Down to their last inning, Taft had some work to do. Van Dolah roped a one out single to center field to start the rally. Jettelson followed this up with a deep double to right field that just missed going over the fence. After an out, Taft found themselves down to their final out, with runners on second and third. On the first pitch, Tantraporn lined a single to left, scoring the tying and go-ahead run. Avon threatened in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but Owen Palmer was able to slam the door, get the final two outs, and secure one of the biggest wins in Taft Baseball history. Taft will travel to Kingswood Oxford on Wednesday to compete in the Founders League Championship.
