Field Hockey - JV

It is a historical fact that once a season a JV Field Hockey match will result in a 0-0 tie. Yesterday's game versus a talented Westminster squad was that game. Both teams played with poise and vigor, but neither could cross the plane. Goalie Emily Riccardi shined with seven saves and, along with the defensive squad of Yow, Cole, Peverly and Salnikoff, spoiled all four of Westy's corners including two that took places in the final two minutes of the game. Offensively, the combinations of Lohuis--Meister--Kunzelmann--Pizzitola and Savage--Brauer--Allen--Wardell worked to penetrate the Martlet's zone. Likewise, Michelle Tetro and Lulu Bradley, along with Lohuis, Brauer and Savage, hustled in the midfield intercepting emerging Westy plays and then pushing the ball right back into Rhino territory. Ultimately, much of the game was played in the middle 50 yards and later evolved into a battle of the long ball. With similar strategies at work, it was as if the Rhinos and the Martlet's were playing a version of field hockey pantomime, mirroring each other all the way to a 0-0 draw. The Rhinos will take on the Hoggers of NMH this Saturday at home on the grass. Go Big Red!
