Rhinos Roll On! The midweek road trip to Ethel Walker yielded a strong showing for the JV Rhinos. Taft put two goals on the board in the first six minutes if the game. Perry Allen ripped a shot off a Martha Lohuis pass at the 20:15 mark and then two minutes later Madeline Meister tapped in the follow-up goal from a rebound shot from Sophie Savage. These two goals set the offensive pace for the match while goalie Emily Riccardi plus defenders Carolyn Yow, Katie Salnikoff, Rachel Peverly and Greta Cole held down the fort at the opposite end of the field. Their strong communication helped anchor the low defense as they systematically cordoned off the lower 40 yards of the field. This excellent effort logged Riccardi her ninth shut-out of the season. In the midfield, Michelle Tetro created momentum with her speed and agile ball-movement. At the 2:50 mark Tetro passed the ball to Lulu Brauer who ripped a pinpoint accurate crossing shot. During the second half, Taft was able to convert its offensive opportunities into nine additional shots and six corner attempts. Goals 4, 5, & 6 were examples of the Rhino's confident passing and field vision. Perry Allen scored off a sequence of midfield passes from Lulu Brauer, Lulu Bradley and Julia Kunzelman. She then returned the favor to Kunzelmann setting her up for head-on goal vis-a-vis a dump pass to Andie Wardell who quickly shifted the ball into scoring position at the top of the circle. Wardell would contribute to goal number 6, as well, cross the ball to Lulu Bradley in a 2 vs 2 fast-break. It was an exciting game to spectate with the Rhinos pushing hard to cage at every opportunity. The team deserves congratulations for meeting and exceeding their expectations heading into the final game of the season. The JV Rhinos face Hotchkiss away on Saturday. Go Big Red!
