Taft hosted Canterbury at home on Wednesday. The Rhinos got off to a quick start in the first half with some great passing and solid defense. The midfield play of Alex Gunton, Loren Lacruz, Meredith King and Melody McAtee helped to keep the ball in the Canterbury half of the field for much of the first half. The highlight of the first half came when Alex Gunton gained possession of the ball at midfield and took it all the way down, weaving through defenders, to score the only goal of the game. In the second half, Taft continued to play strong defense, led by Rose Gasser, Karen Werner, Carolina Salvatore and Lauren Anderson. Canterbury had a few opportunities, but the defense, along with Alara Altun in goal, was able to hold strong and not allow any goals. As the game continued, the attack from Taft proved to be formidable. In the final minutes of the game, Sadie Pollack found an opening on the right side of the field and had a perfect pass to Abby Hawkins right in front of the goal. Abby had a great one-timer towards the corner of the goal, but the Canterbury goalie made an awesome save. As time expired, Taft earned the 1-0 victory. Taft is now 3-1-3 on the season and is looking to have a great last two weeks of the season.
