The Taft JV Boys soccer team opened our season with a decisive six-nil win over the lads from Brunswick this past Saturday afternoon. Taft pressed the Bruins from the opening kick-off and tallied the first goal at the nine minute mark as Max Fossland passed the ball to Mayan Ewert in the middle of the field who then assisted Joel Edholm for the first goal of the match. Taft's next goal came at the eighteen minute mark as lowermid Nick Kenerson sent a fifty yard free kick into the Brunswick box that managed to elude many players and find the net. Nick scored again at the thirty minute mark by sending a long ball in that that was headed into the goal by a Brunswick defender. The first half ended with Taft ahead three-nil. Taft came out fired up in the second half, despite the heat, and scored in the forty fourth minute as Max Fossland this time assisted Beau Root, who put a strong shot past the Brunswick keeper. Next, Ian Staines earned his first goal of the season by gaining possession of a 50/50 ball in the Brunswick box and sending a low, hard shot far post for Taft's fifth goal of the match. Mayan Ewert finished the scoring for Taft in the fifty sixth minute with an assist from CJ D'Virgilio. Both goal keepers for Taft, Sean Dunbar and Andrew Namkoong, played well and contributed to Taft's clean sheet and Stephen Cho had a good match at center back. Brunswick played hard all match and was a little unlucky at times. Taft's next match is at home this Wednesday 20Sep17 against our friends from Westminster at 3 PM. See you there!
