Win 3-1
This afternoon Wednesday 11Oct17, the Taft Boys JV soccer team earned a tough three one victory over the visiting Bears of Berkshire. Amazingly, Taft opened the scoring in the first minute as Joel Edholm crossed the ball to Beau Root who then centered a negative ball to Ian Staines for a very quick goal! Taft then scored our second goal in the fourth minute as Beau again found Joel in the six-yard box for an easy tap in. This second goal really woke up Berkshire as they shook off the lethargy of travel and PSAT's to really raise their energy level and bring the game to Taft for the rest of the half. Conversely, Taft's effort flagged a bit as two quick goals can cause young fellows to become complacent and judge that this match is over. Well, this match was not over and Berkshire had come to play. No further goals were scored in the first half which ended with Taft ahead two nil. Both teams came out with fight and flair in the second half but could not put a shot past the opposing goal keeper until Berkshire tallied their first and only goal of the match in the sixty second minute as a long free kick floated in barely bar down. With eighteen minutes to go and only a goal separating the two sides, this match became a bout of rock 'em sock 'em robots! Four minutes later, Beau Root earned his third assist of the match by again sending in a negative ball from the left to an on-rushing Mayan Ewert who pushed a shot past the Berkshire keeper for another two goal lead for Taft. The next fourteen minutes was exciting but without further scoring. Stephen Cho and Max Fossland again played well for Taft on the back line and Nick Kenerson placed his free kicks and corners expertly as usual. Taft earned a good win today but could also play much better. We will come out and practice hard for the next two days and then face our friends from T-P on Saturday at Taft. See you there!
