Win 6-1
This afternoon at Taft our boys in red defeated the Pride from Trinity Pawling six one in an energetic yet sporting match. Taft opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Max Fossland sent a long ball forward to Mayan Ewert on the left. Mayan carried the ball forward with pace and beat his man and then the TP 'keeper low far post. Mayan scored again in the eleventh minute as Stephen Cho sent a ball forward to Joel Edholm who assisted Mayan for his second but not last goal of the match. Taft scored again in the fifteenth minute as Jaime Zoellner passed a ball forward to Mayan who sent a negative ball at the top of the box to CJ D'Virgilio who struck a lovely ball far post for Taft's third goal of the match. CJ struck some lovely shots during warmup. I asked him if he had a goal in him today and he said he did. Truth! The first half ended with Taft ahead three nil. Both teams came out fired up in the second half and TP took advantage of a Taft defensive lapse and scored on the counter attack in the forty second minute. Our lads did not lose their cool, however, and played hard and earned our fourth goal in the fifty eighth minute as Jaime Zoellner earned his first goal of the year with a deflected shot from the top of the box. Shoot the ball, good things happen, that's the lesson here. Then Ryan Low earned his first goal of the year as Tucker Cassady sent a long ball forward from the left that Ryan scooted past the TP goalkeeper. Finally, Mayan earned his hat-trick in the seventieth minute as he received a pass from Andrew Namkoong after Andrew promised to get Mayan the ball on the sideline before they were both subbed in. Well done, Andrew! The whistle blew ten minutes later and Taft had earned another victory. Credit to our boys for playing hard for eighty minutes and to our friends from TP, as well, who played hard after their trip over from Pawling, NY. Our next match is this Wednesday at Taft v Avon, the side that inflicted our only loss of the year. We'll practice hard this week and be ready for those lads at kick-off! See you there!
