Williston Northampton School
Win 3-0
This afternoon Saturday 21Oct17, the Taft JV Boys soccer team ventured up north to face the lads from Williston. Kickoff was at 3PM and bright and sunny and warm, especially for late October. The playing field was lush grass but very small, both narrow and short, and the boys in blue packed in a solid defense that was almost impenetrable to our lads in white as there were very few scoring chances in the first half and no goals by either team. The whistle blew to end the first half and the score remained nil nil. Coach Hincker and I made a few adjustments and strongly advise our boys to attack the flanks of the Williston defense and work for good crosses to teammates in the six yard box. This tactic worked finally in the forty eighth minute as Mayan Ewert passed the ball to a very fast Beau Root who turned the left corner and sent a negative ball into right winger Jamie Zoellner for Taft's first goal of the match. Williston came forward a bit more at this point but could not put one past either Sean Dunbar or Chris Murphy in goal. Chris made a lovely save on a point blank shot soon after Taft's goal to preserve our one goal lead. Taft scored again in the seventy seventh minute as Edvin Tran Hoac sent a ball to Beau Root who shot the ball off the Williston keeper with the deflection going to Mayan Ewert who ripped a shot off the 'keeper's left hand and in, two nil Taft. Taft finished the scoring in the eighty fourth minute as Max Fossland passed the ball to Tucker Cassady who crossed the ball from the left to Joel Edholm who bottom-footed it into the net. The game ended soon after with Taft earning a good three nil win. Devin Johnson played well for Taft at right back for the full eighty minutes today. Our next match is home on Wednesday against the boys from Salisbury. See you there!
