Loss 1-3
Thirds soccer hosted Avon Old Farms on Saturday, in quite different weather conditions from Wednesday's game. The first half went much better than in previous games, in which Taft had struggled to get a rhythm together. There were chances at both ends until, in the last minute of the first half, Avon broke down Taft’s defense to go up 1-0. The second half continued in much the same vein until, around 20 minutes in, Avon were awarded a penalty for unclear reasons and went 2-0 up. The Taft boys continued to play with passion, but Avon once more broke down their defenses to go 3-0 up with only about 5 minutes to go. In the last minute, after some end-of-game heroics that seem to be becoming this team’s modus operandi, Tate Phillips scored an excellent header from a Liam Shannon corner to get some consolation and a final score 3-1.
