The Girls’ Soccer team took to the road again looking to build off of a solid and emotional game against Loomis to take on Greenwich Academy. Unfortunately for the Big Red, everything that they put into the game to be able to give themselves the best chance for a result on Saturday was lacking in Greenwich. The Rhinos lost too many 50-50 balls and did not have enough passion to gut out a victory on the road. It has been an early learning portion of the season, with psychological development needed as much as technique or tactics. The Big Red are learning some valuable lessons about focus, determination, support, and grit as they fell 0-1 to a hard-working GA team. Of particular note in the game was goalkeeper Katie Piechnik ’18. Piechnik stopped three breakaways and nine shots total and was solid all day in net for Taft. Her play kept the team in the match but the Taft offense could not poke through despite her play in the back. Also having a tremendous game was Tri-Captain Kristin Manfreda ’18 who had her first minutes in the back line in her four-year career for Taft. Taft will look to rebound when they travel to Hopkins on Saturday. Kickoff will be at 3:00.
