Loss 1-3
As promised, the Girls' JV Soccer team put on a great showing on the pitch today. The girls took to the field ready to play a clean game of soccer with dynamic possession, rigorous urgency, and laser sharp focus. Annabelle Wyman started in goal for the Rhiinos. The first half found the teams testing the waters, Sacred Heart was able to find some openings in our back four, but like lightening, we were able to strike back with equally dangerous counter attacks. The Rhinos began to find their rhythm and sense of competitiveness as the half progressed. Samantha Ouelette was essential for us in the midfield by both distributing the ball and weaving through their midfielders. Charlotte Powell and Hollen Spain were a powerful presence, taking charge in the midfield as well. The defense was home to some fresh faces by the likes of Kate Vermylan, Leigh Root, and Blake Gray under the styled and dominant leadership of the experienced Cierra Ouelette and Reese Bragg. Kyra McNerny was feisty today, scoring the first goal after some incredible individual footwork and a deft shot aimed at the upper netting. Not shortly after though, Sacred Heart Scored off a Taft miscommunication. We ended the half 0-0. Taft came out strong in the second half, winning the 50/50 balls and dominating the offensive possession. During the halftime huddle the team came to the consensus that we had to pepper the Sacred Heart goalie with more shots, and that's exactly what Girls' JV Rhinos did. There was a 30 second window deep within the second half where the ball ricocheted off the post on a Sam Ouelette shot, and then a Kyra McNerney strike. The girls were hungry for another ripple into the back of the net. Alas, in the final three minutes of the game, a physical game that is, Sacred Heart got lucky on the better side of a call and were awarded a free kick at the top of the box. They were able to bury the ball over keeper Lily Cook's head. The team spent the last few minutes rallying but couldn't find an equalizer. A disappointed loss, but a well fought effort on behalf of the Rhinos. Come see the lady Rhinos take on rival Hotchkiss next Wednesday, September 20, at 2:30PM on Taft’s home field.
