Win 4-3
The Taft Girls JV squad had quite the matchup again a talented Westminster team on Wednesday. It was cold, wet and dark day but the Rhinos came ready to play. The conditions were a bit slick, but we held our own. Unfortunately, Westminster got up early in the game, scoring three goals unanswered before the half, but Taft was determined to stay in the game. It was halfway through the second half when Piper Desorcie made a powerful run out of the center down the left wing and the momentum changed. With about 19 minutes left, Kyra McNerney eeked one past the goalie unassisted. With 12 minutes to go, a relentless Reese Bragg finished off a cross from Kyra on the right wing. Three minutes later, eager Reese followed up with another goal off a ball from Janse Schoonmaker. The Rhinos had tied it up! But, the girls wanted it and fought with all their might to win. With 52 seconds to go, Hollen tipped one in to put the Rhinos on top. It was truly a phenomenal team effort. The goals would not have been possible without a solid defense of Piper Desorcie, Cierra Ouellette, Blake Gray, Hannah Elliott and Leigh Root. And, of course our goalie Annabelle Wyman, who held a hard line! In the midfield, Janse, Reese and Kyra worked the wings, with rotations from Olivia Dumont and Angela Han. In the middle, Sam Ouellette facilitated many balls out to the side and was working hard up and down the field. Up top, Stirling Thompson, Hollen Spain and Julia Low attacked the goal and followed many shots. The Rhinos strung together many passes and worked hard for this win. It was extraordinary!
