Win 3-2
The JV squad finally had a five-game match go its way on Saturday, avenging a five game loss to Loomis earlier in the season, 27-25, 23-25, 24-26, 25-19, 15-8. As has been the case all season, our best victories are true team efforts. All ten players who suited up got playing time today, and each person contributed to our victory. Taft won the first game, and as the score showed it was going to be a closely contested game. Strong setting by co-captain Shealyn Kennedy '19 allowed our hitters to be aggressive. Taline Almasian '19 continued to be a consistent front row player and was able to contribute defensively as well. Taft dropped the next two sets by the slimmest of margins, even though our defense was playing really strongly. In addition, Sarah Sawyer '20 and co-captain Annabel Firestone '20 played strong at the net in order to challenge the Loomis defense. Zoey Zheng '19 and Sofia Gatti '21 were able to anticipate many shots from the Loomis hitters and position themselves in order to receive the pass. The fourth game had a great ending, with Zoey Zheng serving seven straight points to put the game away. During the fourth game, our hitters were really able to show their power, notably Posey Durling '21 and Maile Kuyper '20. Angel Yu '19 also came into the game to serve and helped us get to a lead in this game. What put the match away was Tiffany Tam '20 serving seven straight points at the start of the fifth game. This gave us the lead that we would not relinquish, as we won the 5th game 15-8. Tiffany Tam '20 lead the team with nine aces, Shealyn Kennedy '19 had four, Sarah Sawyer '20 had seven. Maile "Aloha" Kuyper '20 had a season high six kills, Posey Durling '21 had seven kills, and co-captain Annabel Firestone '20 had our lone block. This was an extremely close game, and Taft was pleased that they were able to finally win a close match. This brings our record to 7-3 for the season and we face Hopkins at home on Wednesday. Many thanks to all the parents, friends and family who came to support the team.
