Squash - Boys' III
Overview
Overview
The boys' thirds squash program began in 2005 in response to the increased interest in the sport and the depth of Taft's squash program. Open to lower-school boys, the thirds team comprises those with no experience to some ability in the sport, and the emphasis is on teaching sportsmanship, having fun, and learning the basics of the game. Over the years, a number of players who began on the thirds team earned spots on Taft's junior varsity and varsity squads. The team size ranges from 10-12 players who compete against other thirds teams and several JV teams.

He was also the technical director the theater program, coached ultimate frisbee, and was a dorm parent. In 2011, Matthew joined the faculty at the Kent School where he taught for 10 years. During his decade at Kent he taught all levels of chemistry, was the technical director for the theater program, coordinating weekend activities, was the advisor for the ESports club, was a dorm parent in both girls and boys dorms, and was an assistant squash coach.
Matthew joined the Taft faculty in 2021 and has since taught accelerated and honors chemistry 1 and chemistry 2: thermodynamics and inorganic chemistry. He works with the technical theater program (specializing in lighting design) and coaches squash at the thirds level.
Matthew is currently studying for his master's in liberal sciences at Wesleyan University. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys playing board and video games with his friends and is currently working on publishing his own board game! Matthew, his wife, Kristina, their three cats (Hermione, Loki, and Nox) and dog (Lana) live off-campus in nearby Oakville, but are always happy to host visitors from the Taft community!
